Compression Bandaging For Lymphedema
What Is Compression Bandaging For Lymphedema
Compression bandaging for lymphedema is a key aspect of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) which is performed during treatment for lymphedema.
During lymphedema Complete Decongestive Therapy a multilayer compression bandage is applied after having performed Manual Lymphatic Drainage. A Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage helps to move the extra, built-up lymph fluid out of affected tissues and back into the lymphatic vessels where it can drain. The use of a multilayer compression bandage system supports the treated area that is affected by lymphedema, and helps to control swelling (edema) by preventing lymph fluid from returning to the area. The multilayer compression bandage consists of several layers of bandaging materials and includes several core components that are used in lymphedema bandaging.
