If your condition has progressed to an advanced stage of venous disease, your healthcare provider will likely prescribe the use of 30 - 40 mmHg compression. With extreme cases, venous disease treatment may require 40 - 50 mmHg compression.

For the easiest donning process, you should apply your compression stockings first thing in the morning when swelling is at the lowest.

If you follow some simple steps, you should be able to successfully don (put on) your graduated compression socks:

  • prep your legs: ensure your legs are completely dry (applying body powder can help)
  • turn your compression stockings inside out: fold the top half of the stockings down over the bottom half so that they are inside out, stopping at the ankle section
  • position your stockings: any seam should be toward the back of your leg and the foot section should be aligned with your foot
